Manuel Porto Barral was born in San Pedro de Portada, Municipality of La Estrada, Province of Pontevedra, Autonomous Region of Galicia, España, in 1842. He was a farmer, owner of certain land with precious wood, range and farmland.
He first married María Josefa Sanmartín Magán with whom he had a daughter, María Porto Sanmartín, who in turn married Manuel Constanto Magán. He became a widower while still young.
He then married María Porto Sanmartín with whom he had only one son, Manuel Porto Porto. Again he became a widower.
He then married Antonia Villar Martínez and had only one daughter, Encarnación Porto Villar.
He later had another daughter called Aurelia, who married Indalecio Matalobos, who had a shoe store in La Estrada.
