If you could thank anyone in your past or present, who would you thank and why?
I would thank my parents, of course, as well as so many of my extended family who treated me so well throughout my youth. I would thank the members of Miriam's family that have treated me well always. I would thank most of my teachers, especially Roche, my third and fourth grade teacher, as well as Dr. Clavijo, who taught me Spanish, Cuban and Spanish literature in high school.
I would thank the people at Chez Milhet who befriended me those first difficult months in exile, as well as my classmate Roberto Pérez, who tried to help me, teaching me the bookkeeping machine at Hotel Everglades at night.
I would thank the few friends I made in Basic Training, the four classmates at Fort Belvoir that accompanied me to Rose Barracks at Bad Kreuznach in Germany, Paris Laws, Roger Schumacher, Dan Danford and John Wilson; I would thank the good friends I made while at Bad Kreuznach and my Battallion Commander, Major Harris, who believed in me and offered to recommend me to Officer Candidate School if I stayed on active duty.
I would thank the good friends I made at Western and Southern Life Insurance Company, The Travelers Insurance Company, in the insurance industry in general, after becoming independent.
I would thank the good people who befriended me at Saint Madeleine Catholic Church of High Springs, after we moved to Northern Florida, the many who attended me very well and befriended me at the V A.
But most of all, I would thank my wife Miriam for putting up with me since I was 15 years old, my son Humberto for the love and extraordinary care he has given me always, my son Daniel and family for their love, last but not least Pablo for his extraordinary love and warmth during his life.
